Memories become shadows

something seen from the corner of the eye

disappears when I turn my head

Footsteps walking in the snow

leaving dirty marks

The sun sinks beyond its own glory

hidden beneath the horizon

The lights go on across towns, cities

the subways become quieter

stations are called out but no one rises

doors open and close with no one

entering or leaving

it is late in the day

people are tired, trying to remember

who said what and what was meant
